HMF! Hatsune Cosplay

These beautiful pics are of angie00 who submitted her cosplay pictures to for the Otacool 2 contest.

So cute.

She is 19 by the way even though she may not look it from the photo.

This isn't really news or opinion like we usually like to post but what the hell. It's super cute Hatsune Miku cosplay. What else could you ask for?

I know what you could ask for. Another cosplay pic of angie00:

You're welcome.

The Figma K-on! circle is almost complete!

Don't say that Max Factory is Lazy! *crickets*

Last time I complained how they would probably just release Yui and then no other girl from the series for a while, but alas I was totally wrong, and I am very glad I was. Announced last week was the beautiful bassist Mio and today on their blog they announced keyboardist Tsumugi (Mugi for short).

Not only are they announcing these beauties, but they are churning them out in record time. Yui comes out in days, Mio next month and then Mugi after that.

I love Mugi, but I was hoping Ritsu would have been the next announcement as she is my favorite of the moe band members. At this point I'm guessing Ritsu will be last to be released and will come in a bigger box to facilitate her drums and probably some kind of additional di:stage. Well that is my hope anyway. Probably won't happen (see last time I said that it happened so I'm trying reverse psychology here with the time space continuum).

HMF! Project DIVA Arcade Game

Here is some video of the newly released Hatsune Miku Project DIVA Arcade game. Just for the record it is exactly the same as the PSP game except with stunning prerendered CGI of Miku in the background. From the looks of it you get your very own special card that you can use to level up Miku and get her different costumes every time you go back to play it.

That's all I will say on the matter as the more I think about it the angrier I get that I'm not in Japan playing this right now.

Build Your Own Arcade Machine... toy

I've dreamed for years of building my own Arcade Machine. I've gathered up the plans many times, and budgeted out each expense, but each time I talk myself out of it.

But now maybe I can get my feet wet with this little baby, and first draw on this blank vinyl figure what I think is my dream machine. If course you can't play it, but oh man, you can sure as heck pretend you are playing the ultimate version of "Super Voc@loid Sisters (my dream game)".

The figure was made by toy company Soopa. Sadly by the time I found out about this thing, they are no longer in production, but you can still pick them up cheap off ebay. But if anyone has a more reliable site that still sells these let me know.

Here are some pics of what some people have done with this thing:

First we have Steam Punk-Man (my name for it not theirs):

Man's Life ACTUALLY Saved by iPhone

So this guy was trapped in the Rubble. He used the light of the screen to view his various injuries, and then used a Medical app on the phone to provide first aid. He had a broken ankle, and large lacerations on his legs and head. He used his clothes to bandage his cuts and create a splint his broken foot. He eventually found refuge in an Elevator shaft to await rescue.
I kind of had some time to do some self-diagnosis down there," Woolley said. "God was with me."
Not bad for a film producer who was in Haiti filming a documentary on efforts to help the nation's poverty-stricken children.Woolley also used his camera to take pictures of the surrounding rubble to piece together a way out. He eventually took refuge in an elevator shaft until rescue crews found him 65 hours after the earthquake.
"I took pictures all around me, then I would hold up the back of the camera to me and I could see what the picture was of a little," he said. "I was able to find an elevator in one of the pictures and that is where I decided to hobble to be in a more safe location."
Sorry if I sound a skeptical, but once it says that he's a "Documentary Filmmaker" and this morning scored a spot on The Today Show; visions of Balloon Boys' float through my head...

Man Saved by Bag-o-Crap

For those of you not indoctrinated into the Church of Woot; is the granddaddy of deal of the day sites. Each day they sell a single item, at a severely discounted price until it's sold out. Occasionally they sell what is called the Bag of Crap, which is a metaphorical paper bag filled with random stuff, usually it only costs $20 or so. Well this guy sent an Email to tell them how the Bag of Crap saved his life.
My name is Bryan Meyers. I have just been evacuated from the Haiti earthquake. One of the things I had with me when the quake started was my cell phone; stuck to its back was the Lumpod LED flashlight that I had received some time ago in a Woot Bag of Crap. I had to walk through the dark streets of Port-au-Prince six miles to get to a secure place. I walked over rubble, bodies (dead and injured), downed wires, back alleys. The flashlight lit my way very reliably. As I said in my journal, THANK YOU, BAG OF CRAP!

If you’re interested, you can read my journal and view some pictures at or at

So next time you see the Bag of Crap on Woot, don't pass it up, it could save your life one day

Microsoft in Talks with Disney for ESPN XBOX Live Streaming

This has been rumored for a while. Sky Sports started streaming live English Premier league football this fall via Xbox Live. It made sense that Microsoft would be working with someone in the US to get a similar deal for sports streaming. With the additional functions of party view added by NXE2 this is the logical next step.

Other than watching movies the most communal entertainment experience would be watching sports. You can watch college football with all of your buddies from around the country at once. I've only used the Party view once, it was fun, but they need to create some kind of speaker phone system so you can literally link one actual party to another.

I think though this speaks to a larger goal of Microsoft in the living room. I think eventually the model of having every single channel, even channels you don't want beamed to your tv may be coming to an end. The model of the future will be ala carte channels and shows you choose, automatically downloaded to your box, which limited embedded advertising. This is already the model that MS uses for Zune, I think the next step will be TV and Video Entertainment. A flat monthly fee, unlimited downloads... The only hurdle are the Studios and the various Unions have to come to a true agreement on each other share of the pie. So don't hold your breath...

Avatar Kills Taiwaneese Guy...

So first it "Fucks your eyeballs out," now then it kills you. Avatar is pretty harsh. So not only is Avatar making the more sensitive set despondent and suicidal over how much better Pandora is than Earth; it also seems to be too exciting for those with Heart Conditions...

A 42 year old Taiwanese man, who had a history of High Blood Pressure, felt ill during the movie and was rushed to the hospital when he lost consciousness. The Excitement of the movie seems to have caused the man to stroke-out. He died 11 days later of a Hemorrhage.

Next thing you know people will be naming their children after the Na'vi. Oh Wait..

Mr. Satan RIP

Is it just me or does it seem like a lot of people in the anime industry seem to be dying lately. Of course as anime gets older, so do the ones who were there from the inception, like the death earlier this week of a voice actor from Ge Ge no Kitaro, Isamu Tanonaka.

But there seems to be a number of people who die young or under strange circumstances. The creator of Shin Chan, Yoshito Usui, died last year hiking and a number of young voice actors died from horrible diseases within the last couple of years. Of course with a medium as expansive as anime, and with all the people involved a few people are going to meet untimely ends.

Well add another to the casualty list as Daisuke Gouri, the voice of Mr. Satan from Dragonball Z died this week. Gouri was found Edger Allen Poe-style, face down on the street. However, unlike Poe, whose death remains a mystery, Gouri seems to be a clear suicide, as his wrist was slashed and he had on him his will. A sad end to a great voice actor that provided probably the best comical moments in Dragonball Z.

Some of Gouri's other roles include Dozle Zabi and Bask Om from Gundam, Hiromi Yamazaki in Patlabor, and Heihachi Mishima in the Tekken video game series.

Bandai Channel to Stream ALL Gundam series, mostly..

Bandai Channel is going to load streams of Mobile Suit Gundam, Zeta Gundam, Gundam Wing, Gundam Seed, Gundam Seed Destiny, and Gundam 00. These will be release exclusively via ANN, Crunchyroll and You Tube. Currently Bandai Entertainment, the North American distributor of Bandai properties, streams Gundam 00 and has previously streamed Seed Destiny.

All of these properties are already on DVD in the US, and thus already have US release licensing. ANN mentions that Bandai intends to name some additional shows after the Feb 1st release of these. To start they may mean we'll get to see the additional OVA series that have also already received US releases like O8th MS Squad and War in Pocket. Perhaps though this means we will finally see a great thawing coming, and finally ZZ Gundam, Turn A Gundam, and Gundam X will finally see the light of day in the US outside of pirate ships.

What I find most intriguing is the announcement that his will be done by Bandai Channel, which is Bandai Japan's Satellite channel. This could mean that the oft rumored launch of the Bandai Channel in North America may be on our door step.

So... Be sure to pre-order your Gundam UC blu-ray disks, and buy a couple for your relitives. The more $$ you spend on Legal Gundam properties, the more we we'll get.

Brilliant Gundam Diorama

This is really old, but I thought I should post it anyway because it is simply amazing.

This guy, Francesco Coriglione, made this breath taking Gundam diorama for the Bandai World Competition. It has a RX-78 Gundam sitting in his room adorned with Gundam and Bandai merchandise, building his own model!

The whole thing is very meta. Go to his blog on Danny Choo, to see more very detailed, and highly intricate pictures of everything in this Gundam Otaku's room.

There are even DVD's on the top shelf with box art, with SGT Frog model kit boxes next to them. Excellent work!

You've heard of Hatsune Fridays.... Now Megurine Mondays!

Well I promise not to take it that far. At least this won't be an official day, but I ran across this looking up Voc@loid videos.

The song is of Megurine Luka, the third (fourth technically) character in the Vocaloid2 software by Yamaha, singing "Like a Virgin". The great thing about Luka is that she has English phonemes build into her database, so she can sing English songs. However, it is English based on how the Japanese pronounce English, so it still sounds pretty accurate to a Japanese girl trying to sing English.

And as a bonus here is her singing "Stairway to Heaven", which I only include because the fast part at the end is hilarious.

Gundam Unicorn BD - Amazon Exclusive

Gundam Unicorn will be released March 12 for $49.99 as an exclusive for two months.

The whole episode is only 60 minutes long, which means that is quite a price tag for a 60 minute "movie". The pricing seems more in line with what the Japanese pay for OVAs, which can be as much as $50 for one 30 minute episode. I guess if you look at it like that we are getting a great deal.

Though I am sure after the two month window has passed you will see this thing drastically lower in price.

Tiny Miku in my hand!

Thanks to the awesome PSP game Hatsune Miku Project DIVA, you can take Miku and make her dance against a green screen, and with a helpful third party ap (After Effect), Miku can be placed anywhere!

I obviously made this in a few minutes. I fully plan to explore greater possibilities (with better quality) where I can have Miku dance and sing for my enjoyment.

MUH-HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! <- evil laugh....

I think I might be taking this Hatsune Miku stuff a little far......

HMF! Cruel Hatsune Thesis

Here is a cover of "Cruel Angel Thesis" done by the best of all the Hatsune Miku contributors, "ryo".

Ryo's original material for Hatsune includes "World is Mine", "Black Rock Shooter", and "Love is War" which are the three best songs in her lineup. You can also go here for a YouTube playlist of all his solo works to date. He is also a member of supercell, who as a group make Hatsune Miku songs.

Also as a bonus here is a crummy iPhone picture of my new Hatsune Miku Figma on top of my speaker at work making her appear to be at a concert blowing minds... and souls.

Macross Revolotech are ready for action

Macross is a show I've seen off and on, but I really have no idea what the overall story is or who are the main character, but it's a show I've always wanted to get into.

Maybe with the release of these new spiffy Revolotech figures I might be motivated to watch the show if I make an investment with the figures.

I'm glad to see Revolotech going back and making mech figures. They have been experimenting with human based figures, and while I love their Queen's Blade figures, their other anime based poseable figures just can't compete with Figma. However, they wrote the book on poseable mech figures, so they are on top of their game when making these bad boys. Plus their figures have always been super affordable and look excellent to boot.

Black Rock Shooter Preview

You know what's special about Black Rock Shooter, other than looking awesome?

1) It's directed by Haruhi and Luck star alumni: Yutaka Yamamoto

2) It's based on a Hatsune Miku song!!

It's not even Friday yet and you are getting Hatsune Miku info. Aren't you lucky?

I sometimes wonder if Max Factory has a bug secretly planted in my house and hears my plea that certain figma's MUST be made.

So on their blog today they announced Yui Hirasawa from K-On! and her sister. And they look fabulous.

The company Mobip made poseable K-On! figures last year, with each girl coming with a piece of Ritsu's drum kit. When they first showed the figures they didn't seem very impressive. However, after getting to see them in person from a friend of mine, I can say they are actually really good figures. They are notably larger then the Figma's which is nice.

The other good thing about the Mobip over Figma is that at least you can get the entire band. With the way Max Factory releases Figma's we will get Yui and Ui now and probably Sawako Yamanaka (the teacher) then we will have to buy some limited edition video game for 10,000 YEN, that comes with the "Don't Say Lazy" Mio. Then five years later they will release the other girls. Do I sound bitter? Once burned twice shy I say.

Regardless I hate to look a gift horse in the mouth and will eagerly preorder the Hirasawa sisters.

UPDATE: Also these girls are out in just two weeks! That's a fast turn around. Makes me wonder why we have to wait until May for that Rider Figma.

Yet ANOTHER new Fate/Stay Night Movie trailer

Actually the first one was a teaser where this is a full on trailer.

LOTS of iconic scenes in this one that people who have read the Visual Novel will recognize. Tohsaka and Saber look beautiful fully animated.

Be warned there are some slight spoilers.

See it HERE now.

Hatsune Miku is going to Venus!!!

Thanks to fans, well over 11,000 signatures were gathered and sent to JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) for the inclusion of everyone's favorite virtual idol, Hatsune Miku, on their Venus bound spacecraft Akatsuki.

She will be immortalized on an aluminum plate on the spaceship intended to send messages to beyond the stars.

The great thing about this is that Akatsuki is a climate orbiter, meaning that just possibly, after we are dead and buried and our great great great great half cyborg grand children inherit what will be left of out war torn nearly destroyed Earth, the beautiful immortal Miku will still be circiling Venus as a great paramount and testament to our once great society.

To celebrate, here is my favorite Hatsune Song:

Guy Get's Fired for Calling Somone an "Avatard"

A guy in Utah was fired from his job last week for among other things calling a fan of the Avatar, and "Avatard." Apparently he's worked as a Customer Service Rep for many years, as with many lonely CS phone reps he makes small talk with his callers while on the line. It's seems though that he's a bit of a hater.
“I liked Dances with Wolves too,” says Hansen when discussing the plot of Avatar. “In fact, that was a great movie and probably one of two movies that Costner didn’t fall on his face with. Avatar is exactly like it. Just like that new piece of [expletive] G.I. Joe movie was just like Team America: World Police. Am I the only one seeing this?”
It seems though when talking to his customers over the last week he couldn't help but bring up his most hated obsession.
When taking a routine call the Monday following Avatar’s global release in theaters, customers, who were trying to make simple small talk with the long-time customer service rep, raved about the new film. “People were calling up and saying that the movie was the best thing they have ever seen in their entire lives. One person actually said, ‘I wish I lived on Pandora. They are so nice there. The movie was so real.’ Really? The blue people seemed nice? You want to live on that planet with the weird rhinoceroses? I told them I’d book a ticket with Nucking Futs Airlines.”

The customer on the other end of the phone, Andrea Thompson, 38, didn’t see the humor of Hansen’s comment and asked to speak with his supervisor. “I needed help with a stencil,” says Thompson. “I couldn’t get it to work. Seriously, how do you get them to work? Does the pencil go on your ear or under the paper?” When asked about Hansen’s comments about the movie, she choked up. “Avatar was incredible. It is in 3D and looked good. I’m not talking “good,” I mean awesome. It was awesome. That man was off his bean. He said that the story was too simple and that if movies were used as a vessel for storytelling, then Avatar was a ‘turd in an Armani’ or something. He also called me an ‘Avatard.’

Another Gem:
Thompson wasn’t the customer that felt the heat of Hansen’s sting. Two other Stencil Tech customers called the call center looking for assistance with recently purchased stencils and brought up the film, like 20-year-old Chris Ullyes. “I called that 800 number and he picked up. First I asked if he could tell me what color my yellow stencil was. He laughed and said he would need to look up yellow stencils in his database to find out the color. So, I asked him if he saw Avatar yet. I told him I thought it was the greatest movie I had ever seen. Way better than Star Wars, The Lord of the Rings, Legends of the Fall and The Godfather. Then he yelled at me.”

Hansen remembers that call like it was yesterday. “That guy was such a douche. He actually said Avatar was like watching Jesus being born. Who says dumb [expletive] like that? I asked why he liked it so much and he said ‘because it looked awesome.” That was it. Anaconda looked ‘awesome.’ Inspector Gadget looked ‘cool.’ I told him I’d pay him $5 if he could tell me what the story was about. He told me it was about a blue guy who wanted to fly on a dinosaur. I told him his yellow stencil was blue like his nuts after seeing Avatar.”
I'll admit that I loved Avatar. I don't think though that it Rivals Star Wars or the Birth of Jesus. It seems though that we have another item to add to the list of thing to ever talk about in Mixed Company: Politics, Religion, Star Wars vs LOTR, and Avatar...

New Code Geass Anime CONFIRMED!

It has been confirmed that Code Geass is getting a brand new anime. Not a manga or video game or any other side project, but a full blown anime.

I really hope it continues after the second season. Maybe not a direct sequel picking up where the second season ended because they wrapped things up pretty good. What I really mean to say is, PLEASE no prequels.

I love CC and I know she has a long life but I really don't want to see a story about her 200 years ago. Lets move forward and not backwards.

The announcement says is that there is a new anime in the works. I think I would rather have a movie, but that is just me. I'll take whatever new Code Geass goodness they are going to throw at me.

Gundam 30th Cup Noodle Mini Gunpla, MS-06S

For my Birthday a month or so ago I received a very thoughtful gift from Lonecow. He got me the full set of Limited edition 30th Anniversary Gundam Unicorn Cup Noodles. Each Cup has a special cap that includes one limited edition Mini Gundam Model. Over the last month I've been back and forth as to whether to actually open one and assemble the toy. As a reformed toy collector, who still has an entire box of unopened X-Men toys, It pains me to open anything that could one day be a collectible. But lets be honest here. The only place this thing is valuable is at Anime-Cons and Japan. Since I don't intend to sell It's all good. I decided that I would open the MS-06S Char Special, aka The Red Comet.

The Top of the Cup Noodle Featuring the a small picture of RX-79 Gundam.

Plastic Cap containing all of the parts and the Instructions.

Official Gundam 30th logo on the interior of the plastic Cap

There were three part trees, with 3different Injection colors. Zaku Pink, Maroon, and Dark Grey. The part break down was Pink for arms legs and head, Maroon for the Body, and Dark Grey for the Foot Pads, Gun, and Chest Crest.

Here is a close up of the assembled Torso.

Low Fidelity in terms of detail of course, but fairly good quality all things considered.

All Finished... I hope ARis doesn't mind sharing her cube. This next year I will be making reviews of Gundam Kits a more regular feature.

Gundam Returneth

That's right, the 1:1 Gundam statue which stood in Odiaba last year will return later this summer in a small town of Shizuoka. Shizoukoa is like the Detroit of plastic model kits... It makes sense that Bandai would choose the Shizuoka as the Mecca to the Gundam's Kaaba. At a days train ride from Tokyo I'm guessing that Shizuoka will be get quite the bump in Tourism this summer. Alas though it will again be a temporary engagement, it seems the statue just isn't built for year-round display.

Neon Genesis Gundamgelion Part 2

I had thought the Unicorn Gundam was a slight rip off of Evangelion 01, with the horn and all, but it's nothing compaired to this monstrosity.

This thing is called the Gundam Astray Second Revise. I don't know if it showed up in any show because I can only find it in model kit form but this thing sure is bizarre. Apparently it transforms into a dog dragon. Impressive.

Rider Figma Announced! (also we are back from break)

We pretty much shut down for the holidays if you couldn't tell, and hopefully we didn't loose what little viewership we already had but in any case I thought I'd get the ball rolling with some old news!

I know I cover a lot of Fate/Stay Night on this blog (and Hatsune Miku), but this little nugget is too good to pass up. Unless you were looking for it it kind of got buried with the slew of Comiket announcements (namely all the Max Factory new releases for next year.

The news: Rider from Fate/Stay Night!

Rider has always been one of my favorite characters in F/SN. When I was in Japan she was the only character I used when I played Fate/Unlimited Codes at the arcades, so I couldn't be happier.

I think I recall complaining on this very blog about how there were a severe lack of villain characters with the F/SN Figma releases and this finally remedies that. Now I can finally have my F/SN Figma's fighting someone.

I didn't see a release date mentioned on any other sites, but judging from the little placard next to her it looks like a May 2010 release, which is a LONG ways off, but better late then never. Also I hope she comes with at LEAST four faces. Two with blindfold and two without.
